Out-patient and Day patient facility of Chemotherapy

The Out-patient and Day patient facility of Chemotherapy carries out its activity as of January 1, 2011, being a part of the Clinic of Chemotherapy and Haematology.

The personnel of the Out-patient and Day patient facility of Chemotherapy include 8 oncologists/chemotherapists and 8 oncology nurses.

The Out-patient and Day patient facility of Chemotherapy provides treatment to patients with malignant breast tumours, malignant tumours of the large intestine, rectum, and stomach, as well as gynaecological, urological, and other tumours.

The Out-patient and Day patient facility of Chemotherapy carries out chemotherapy for both out-patients and in-patients; all oncologists/chemotherapists of the department provide out-patient consultations, while the physicians provide consultations during all the multidisciplinary boards of specialists of in-patient and out-patient units of the In-patient Department “Latvian Oncology Centre”.

On average, 60 oncology patients receive chemotherapy in the day patient facility every day. The Day patient facility of Chemotherapy is open 5 days a week (except for Saturday and Sunday) from 8:00 to 16:30.

Head of the Department: Assoc. Prof. Iveta Kudaba, oncologist/chemotherapist, chief physician in chemotherapy

Graduated from Riga Medical Institute in 1989; obtained a Doctor of Medical Science Degree (Dr. Med.) in 2009. Underwent training in the Russian Oncology Centre in Moscow, Karolinska University Hospital (Stockholm, Sweden), Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre (Melbourne, Australia), Vienna University Hospital (Vienna, Austria), St. Gallen Breast Cancer Clinic (Suitzerland). Member of the Latvian Association of Oncologists, Association of Chemotherapists of the Latvian Association of Oncologists, European Society of Chemotherapy, and American Society of Chemotherapy. Carries out training of students and residents in the University of Latvia.

Ārija Brīze, certified oncologist/chemotherapist

Graduated from Riga Medical Institute in 1986 and obtained a physician’s degree; finished internship in oncology in 1987. Former leading researcher in clinical studies on colorectal cancer, breast cancer, anaemia in case of oncologic diseases, prostate cancer, ovarian cancer, lung cancer, etc. Main areas of activity: breast cancer, urologic tumours, colorectal cancer.

Ivars Baumanis, certified oncologist/chemotherapist

Graduated from Riga Medical Institute in 1981. Participated in clinical studies on the treatment of metastatic large intestinelarge intestinecancer, metastatic breast cancer, and non-small cell lung cancer. Main areas of activity: breast cancer, large intestinelarge intestinecancer.

Alinta Hegmane, certified oncologist/chemotherapist

Graduated from the Medical Academy of Latvia in 1998; obtained a physician’s degree. Completed residency in oncology in the Medical Post-diploma Education Institute of the University of Latvia in 2002. Obtained a Doctor of Medicine Degree in 2008; the subject is related to the adjuvant chemotherapy of breast cancer. Since 2010: lecturer at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Latvia. Participated in clinical studies on breast cancer, ovarian cancer, lung cancer, and intestinal cancer. Author of internationally quoted publications. As of 2011 – national representative of Latvia in the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO). Main areas of activity: breast cancer, ovarian cancer.

Eva Vecvagare, certified oncologist/chemotherapist

Graduated from the Latvian Academy of Medicine in 1996, obtained a physician’s degree. Experience in clinical studies since 2007 – phase II studies on the treatment of metastatic colorectal cancer, treatment of metastatic lung cancer, adjuvant therapy of breast cancer. Experience in medicinal therapy of breast tumours, gynaecological tumours, tumours of digestive organs, lung diseases, and urogenital tumours, as well as treatment of lung cancer.

Žanete Zvirbule, certified oncologist/chemotherapist

Graduated from Riga Medical Institute in 1986, obtained a physician’s degree. Since 1986, worked in the Latvian Institute of Experimental and Clinical Medicine, participated in clinical studies in the field of oncology chemotherapy. Participates in training of residents of the University of Latvia and Riga Stradiņš University; author of a study programme for oncologists/chemotherapists/residents of the University of Latvia. Participated in clinical studies on breast cancer, ovarian cancer, intestinal cancer, and lung cancer. Author of two internationally quoted publications on breast cancer; co-author of three publications on the development of diagnostic methods for the optimisation of tumour therapy; co-author of the patent on the use of breathing test for patients receiving chemotherapy. Main areas of activity: ovarian cancer, uterine cancer, cervical cancer, breast cancer. As of 2003 – head of the Latvian Association of Oncologists/Chemotherapists.
