Dermatologists / Venereologists

In the In-patient Department “Gaiļezers”, consultations on the diagnostics and treatment of skin diseases are provided by Dr. Astrīda Krakope, in the In-patient Department – by Nora Valdmane; in the In-patient Department “Latvian Infectology Centre” – by the Out-patient Department of Sexually Transmitted and Skin Diseases.
In the In-patient Department “Gaiļezers” and In-patient Department “Biķernieki”, dermatologists/venereologists specialize in the diagnostics and treatment of the following skin diseases:

  • eczema;
  • allergic diseases, atopic dermatitis (cutaneous inflammations);
  • fungal infectious diseases;
  • psoriasis;
  • face skin diseases, acne, seborrhoea;
  • hair diseases;
  • pigment spots, birthmarks, warts, hand and foot skin changes;
  • neoplasms in the skin;
  • appearance of internal diseases, malignant diseases in the skin and mucous membrane.
  • Diagnostics (examination):
  • laboratory examinations, including diagnostics of venereal diseases (AIDS, syphilis, gonorrhoea;
  • biopsies;
  • roentgenographic, ultrasonographic and other examinations, if required for specifying the diagnosis.

Dermatovenerologists of the Out-patient Department of Sexually Transmitted and Skin Diseases No.12 at the In-patient Department “Latvian Infectology Centre” carry out the diagnostics and treatment of the said diseases, as well as perform examinations for all sexually transmitted diseases (syphilis, HIV, gonorrhoea, chlamydiosis, ureaplasmosis, mycoplasmosis, trichomoniasis, anogenital herpes) and contagious skin diseases (scabies, demodicosis – face skin mites, fungal diseases in the skin and finger nails), using bacterioscopic, bacteriological, immunological and molecular biological and serological methods. The treatment and observation of patients with sexually transmitted diseases is carried out in the department as well.
To verify the diagnosis of skin diseases, a biopsy method with histological confirmation of diagnosis and a dermatoscopy method are used in discovering skin formations using a non-invasive approach.
Patients with foot mycosis and onychomycosis, as well as patients with corns, are taken care of in a specialized podiatry room. Benign formations, warts, acute condyloma, corns, contagious mollusk are treated in the department by using cryodestruction method.
The department issues a health card to persons engaged in prostitution.
In case of emergency medical assistance, direct availability is ensured for patients with sexually transmitted diseases as well as patients with contagious skin diseases, for instance, scabies. Other patients require family doctor’s or specialists’ referrals.
