Department of Emergency Radiology

The Department of Emergency Radiology operates 24/7. It provides all types of X-ray imagingX-ray imagingX-ray imaging and computed tomography examinations, using equipment of the latest generation that allows diagnosing the finest pathologies in case of injuries and vascular diseases (stroke, etc.), while ensuring that the patients receive the reduced radiation dose. The latest computed tomography equipment is used to perform cardiovascular examinations for the patients of the coronarography day patient facility.

Cutting-edge ultrasound equipment ensures the possibility to perform all types of examinations with high resolution and storage of images in the central image archiving system of RIGA EAST UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL.

The Department of Emergency Radiology accepts patients with a referral from the specialists of the Clinic of Emergency Medicine and Patient Admission. The patients’ payment for examinations is to be made according to the price-list. In case of a referral from a general practitioner, examinations are available as a fee-based service.

CT coronarography is carried out only for the patients of the day patient facility with a referral from a cardiologist; registration for an appointment with the cardiologist by phone 67000610.

The following diagnostic radiology examinations are available:

Ultrasonography

  • Ultrasonography of the abdominal cavity;
  • Ultrasonography of the thyroid gland and soft tissues of the neck;
  • Ultrasonography of soft tissues;
  • Ultrasonography of the pleural cavity;

Computed tomography

  • Computed tomography of the head (incl. perfusion, angiography);
  • Computed tomography of spinal vertebrae;
  • Computed tomography of the osteoarticular system;
  • Computed tomography of lungs and mediastinum;
  • Computed tomography of the abdominal cavity and small pelvis;
  • CT coronarography (for patients of the day in-patient department).

The specialists of the department participate in the training of students and residents of the Faculty of Medicine of Riga Stradiņš University in the field of radiology and training of radiologist’s assistants and radiographers of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Latvia. All employees participate in the sessions of the professional association and international congresses and workshops. They take active part in the activities organized by the European Society of Emergency Radiology.
