Department of Diagnostic Radiology

The following examinations are available to patients of the in-patient department and day patient facility, as well as out-patients:

X-ray imaging:

  • X-ray imaging of lungs;
  • X-ray imaging of the osteoarticular system.

X-raying:

  • Examination of the large bowel – irrogoscopy;
  • Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography;
  • X-raying of the stomach and duodenum;
  • X-raying of the oesophagus;
  • Fistulography;
  • Screening mammography (full-field digital mammography, ensuring description by two radiologists);
  • Mammography (full-field digital mammography);
  • Stereotactic mammography biopsy.

Ultrasonography:

  • Ultrasonography of the abdominal cavity;
  • Ultrasonography of the thyroid gland and epithelial bodies;
  • Ultrasonography of joints;
  • Ultrasonography of soft tissues;
  • Ultrasonography of the pleural cavity;
  • Gynaecological and obstetric ultrasonography;
  • Transrectal ultrasonography of the prostate;
  • Ultrasonography of testicles.

Invasive ultrasonographic examinations:

  • Punctures of the thyroid gland, breast, superficially localized structures, prostate gland, and organs of the abdominal cavity with subsequent cytological, histological, and morphological examination of the material obtained.

Computed tomography:

  • Computed tomography of the head;
  • Computed tomography of spinal vertebrae;
  • Computed tomography of soft tissues of the neck;
  • Computed tomography of the osteoarticular system;
  • Computed tomography of lungs and mediastinum;
  • Computed tomography of the abdominal cavity and small pelvis.

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI):

  • For the brain and spinal cord;
  • MRI of the spine;
  • MRI of the abdominal cavity;
  • MRI of bile ducts – cholangiopancreatography;
  • MRI of the small pelvis – gynaecological MRI and MRI of the prostate;
  • MRI of the breast;
  • MRI of joints and soft tissues;
  • MR-angiography – arteries of the head and neck.

X-ray imaging, X-ray radioscopy, computed tomography, and ultrasonography examinations require a referral from a general practitioner or a specialist. MRI examinations require a referral from a specialist. Registration by phone 67000610 or by filling in an e-registration form

Romāns Bukbārdis, chief physician in haematological oncology, specializes in radiation oncology, haematological oncology, and neuroradiology (neuroradiological MRI (incl. angiography), MRI of soft tissues of the neck, and musculoskeletal MRI; computed tomography of the abdominal cavity and pelvis, thoracic cage, soft tissues; musculoskeletal computed tomography).

Māra Epermane, chief physician in musculoskeletal radiology, specializes in musculoskeletal radiology, completed trainingin Austria and Germany (musculoskeletal MRI).

Ausma Erdmane, specializes in radiation oncology (ultrasonography of organs of the abdominal cavity and pelvis, surface tissues and organs).

Daina Greiškalna, specializes in the diagnostics of breast pathology (mammography; stereotactic mammography biopsy; breast ultrasonography; invasive ultrasonography; ultrasonography of the abdominal cavity, surface tissues, and thyroid gland).

Ineta Nemiro, chief physician in the radiology of soft tissues, specializes in radiation oncology, abdominal radiology, and radiology of soft tissues of the neck (MRI of the abdominal cavity and soft tissues of the neck; computed tomography of the abdominal cavity and pelvis, as well as soft tissues of the neck; ultrasonography of the abdominal cavity, surface tissues, and thyroid gland; invasive ultrasonography, incl. punctures of the liver).

The specialists of the department participate in the training of students and residents of the Faculty of Medicine of Riga Stradiņš University in the field of radiology and training of radiologist’s assistants and radiographers of the University of Latvia. All employees participate in the sessions of the professional association and international congresses and workshops, and take active part in the work of the Latvian Association of Radiologists and associations of the relevant sub-specialities.
