Centre of Tuberculosis and Lung Diseases

The Centre of Tuberculosis and Lung Diseases (Republican Tuberculosis Dispensary back then) has ensured the care of patients with tuberculosis and lung diseases in the country since 1971.

The clinical centre has developed into a high-level health care institution in the area of pneumology, bronchology, and thoracic surgery. By cooperating with the pneumologists of other medical treatment institutions, the Centre of Tuberculosis and Lung Diseases not only ensures effective tuberculosis control in the country, but also is the only tertiary-level clinic in the area of diagnostics and treatment of lung diseases that is at the level of world university clinics in many fields.

The competence of the clinic in the area of tuberculosis control, particularly multidrug-resistant tuberculosis, is highly valued across the world. The first in the world and long-time the only cooperation centre of the World Health Organization for the research of multidrug-resistant tuberculosis and education operates in the Centre of Tuberculosis and Lung Diseases.

On 1 April 2012 the Centre of Tuberculosis and Lung Diseases joined Riga East Clinical University Hospital as one of its in-patient departments.

The Centre of Tuberculosis and Lung Diseases with 305 beds and Riga Out-patient Department ensure the diagnostics and treatment of patients with tuberculosis and other lung diseases.

The Centre of Tuberculosis and Lung Diseases includes the following:

  • In-patient Department (Stopiņi region, Upeslejas, LV-2118)
  • Riga Out-patient Department (68 Lielvārdes Street, building 7, Riga, LV-1006)

Patients with tuberculosis and other lung diseases (including oncological diseases) are offered the possibilities of high-level diagnostics and treatment, including thoracic surgery.

Patients may be referred to the Centre of Tuberculosis and Lung Diseases, having received pneumologist’s or general practitioner’s referral.

The patients undergoing tuberculosis treatment in the Centre of Tuberculosis and Lung Diseases or an examination, having suspicions for tuberculosis, do not have to pay for the examination and treatment (both in-patients and out-patients). Patient’s payment does not have to be paid by the categories of residents who are exempted from patient’s payment pursuant to the procedure prescribed by the Cabinet of Ministers.
