Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care are branches of medicine that have developed particularly rapidly over the last decade. Respective specialized clinics and departments of Riga East Clinical University Hospital have been created so as to provide complete set of services, using medical equipment and patient monitoring systems recognized in Europe and across the world.

The task of anaesthesiology specialists is both ensuring anaesthesia and controlling all the functions of the body that are crucial for person’s life during surgery and postoperative period. Anaesthesiologists ensure anaesthesia according to all the operative special fields topical at the hospital: general, spinal, epidural, nerve plexuses, etc. A wide range of medicinal products allows every patient to select the type of narcosis which is the most appropriate for him/her.

Intensive care is a multidisciplinary (anaesthesiological, surgical, internal, neurological, etc.) field concerned with treatment of critically ill patents, maintenance of vital functions, diagnostics, and other activities in cooperation with other hospital units, using modern, complex medical technologies and medicinal products.
